ACTV tickets for Venice

„Your best investment for a successful stay here in Venice“

Nothing enhances your stay in Venice more than a public transport ticket. Venice is a unique island city set in the lagoon of the northern Adriatic – and the best way to explore an island is by boat. With ACTV’s waterbuses (Vaporetti), you can reach all of Venice’s top sights quickly, comfortably, and affordably. Shown in this photo.

Did you know? Much of the Grand Canal has no walkway. The only way to admire the stunning palazzi – some of the city’s most magnificent – is by boat: either a private water taxi or the ACTV public boats. Our top recommendation: Get a multi-day ACTV pass and enjoy unlimited travel across the entire city network.

ACTV stands for ‚Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano‘. Its fleet of 160 boats takes you through Venice, to the Lido, and of course to Murano – famous for its glassblowers – and all the way to Burano, known for its colorful houses and an absolute must for every visitor to Venice. Even the airport transfer by bus is operated by ACTV.

Vaporetto Line 1

Line 1 is the slowest, yet the most scenic route through Venice. The Line 1 Vaporetto shown here travels the entire length of the Grand Canal. It starts in the north of the city at Piazzale Roma, winds its way along the canal, and ends in the south at the Lido. The full journey takes about 75 minutes. Key stops include: the train station, Rialto Bridge, Accademia, St. Mark’s Square, the Biennale, and Lido. This ride is an absolute must for every visitor to Venice. If you haven’t taken this journey, you haven’t truly experienced Venice.

Vaporetto Line 2

Line 2 offers a full panoramic tour through and around Venice – the perfect way to explore the city’s unique island setting. You’ll love it! Like Line 1, it travels the entire length of the Grand Canal, stopping at Piazzale Roma, the train station, Rialto Bridge, and St. Mark’s Square. But unlike Line 1, it then loops around and returns via the wide, open Giudecca Canal. One highlight: a stop at the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, home to a beautiful monastery. Take a short break here and head up the bell tower – the view of Venice’s skyline from above is simply breathtaking. Line 2 also stops at Zattere, a lovely waterfront promenade. Treat yourself to a quick break and enjoy what many consider the best ice cream in town at Gelateria da Nico. On the terrace, you can relax in the sun with a cone, a cappuccino – or even an Aperol Spritz. The ride continues past the harbor and the large parking island of Tronchetto, before returning to the Grand Canal and Piazzale Roma.

Vaporetto Line 4.1 and 4.2

Every visitor to Venice should take the time to visit the glass factories on Murano and watch the famous glass artists work their magic right before your eyes. Typically, a standing horse figure is crafted in just a few minutes from a raw lump of molten glass – a fascinating experience you won’t want to miss! The Vaporetti of lines 4.1 and 4.2 (shown in the photo) will take you from Venice to the nearby island of Murano in just a few minutes.

Vaporetto Line 14 and 12

These two lines operated by ACTV will take you from Venice to Burano. We recommend taking Line 14. It departs near St. Mark’s Square and offers stunning views of the Venetian Lagoon along the way – a truly unforgettable ride. Enjoy the view from the sun deck on the large Line 14 boats: sitting in the shade, cooled by the breeze, while seagulls glide around the ship. This is Venice at its most beautiful – this is life at its best.

Important notice

You must validate your ACTV ticket before each Vaporetto ride. To do so, simply hold your ticket up to the card reader located at the entrance of every terminal. The device will beep to confirm that your ticket is valid and will then open the gate, allowing you to board the boat.

This is a ticket validator. Be sure to validate your ticket here before every trip.
