After landing at Marco Polo Airport in Venice, you have a small problem
for which there are six good, quick, or inexpensive solutions.

You will need an airport transfer to your accommodation
as Marco Polo Airport is approximately 15 km from the city.

Waterway
Three providers will take you by water to your hotel in Venice: the private water taxi, the shuttle service, and the AliLaguna.

By land:
Three companies offer overland transport to Venice:
either by bus or by road taxi.
These only take you to the northern outskirts of Venice, Piazzale Roma.
There, you transfer to a water bus (vaporetto),
which will take you near your accommodation.

The private water taxi

Immediately after landing, a private, fast water taxi will take you to your hotel or any other destination in Venice. The water taxi transfer is fast, comfortable, and personalized. This option means you „arrive with style and class.“ You’ll already be at your hotel, or enjoying your first Aperol Spritz in St. Mark’s Square, while the other guests who chose a slower transfer are still on their way or are just transferring.

Of course, this speed and comfort comes at a price.

Directly to your hotel.

The private water taxi stops right in front of your hotel. If your accommodation is NOT located on a canal, the private water taxi is guaranteed to take you as close as possible to your destination here in Venice. The taxi drivers have always kept this promise.

Advance reservation is highly recommended!

The taxi center at the airport strongly recommends making a secure, binding online reservation. If you only look for a taxi on site and have NOT reserved online, a taxi from Venice to the airport will have to be requested separately for you. The journey takes at least 30 minutes. You can avoid this wait. During particularly popular events in Venice, such as the Venice Film Festival, the taxi center at the airport displays this sign.

No waiting taxis

Unlike other airports around the world, where there are usually plenty of free street taxis waiting for guests, the water piers here in Venice are very limited. If there are no water taxis waiting for guests at the airport, a taxi will have to travel from Venice for you. The journey takes at least 30 minutes. You can avoid this. Only with the security of an online reservation will a taxi be waiting for you here at the airport. And if your flight is delayed, the taxi center here at the airport will be notified, and you will be assigned another taxi.

Entrance to narrow channel ?

The map shows the island location of Venice and the large, wide Grand Canal, which winds through the city like a mirrored large ‚S.‘

The journey from the airport to Venice is fairly quick. And now, having arrived in Venice, a taxi will take you to your accommodation. If your hotel is on the outskirts or near the Grand Canal, the journey is quite fast, as you can see here in the picture.

The taxi driver only encounters problems when your accommodation is located in the heart of the old town. At that point, he has to drive slowly due to speed limits, avoid one-way streets, and maneuver through very narrow little canals for an extended period. After dropping you off at your accommodation, he also has to navigate slowly and awkwardly out of the maze of small canals. And as you know, the saying goes, ‚Time is money.‘ This applies to the situation described above, where your accommodation is time-consuming and complicated to reach. Therefore, the taxi driver charges an additional fee of 20 euros per trip in this particular case. The standard fare for the airport transfer applies per taxi for a maximum of 4 people and is only valid for a direct trip to your accommodation when it is easily accessible.

If you look very closely, you’ll see that the passage under the bridge leads directly into the old town of Venice and into a one-way street, and that there is a speed limit of 5 km/h here. Incidentally, you also have this problem with the AliLaguna and the public transport service ACTV. In fact, the issue is even more pronounced there. The AliLaguna and ACTV stop at only a few stations, all of which are located on the outskirts of Venice or directly along the Grand Canal. The large boats of AliLaguna and ACTV do not enter the numerous narrow and tight canals. They are too wide and cannot navigate there.
